
Banyuwangi once again proved its reputation as one of Indonesia’s favorite travel destinations during the long holiday of Ascension Day from 14–17 May 2026. Thousands of domestic and international tourists crowded major attractions, while hotels and accommodations across the region experienced a sharp increase in occupancy rates.
According to data from the Banyuwangi Culture and Tourism Office, a total of 47,478 tourists visited Banyuwangi during the four-day holiday period. The number consisted of 46,685 domestic travelers and 793 international visitors. The impressive achievement highlighted the growing strength of Banyuwangi tourism in attracting visitors from various regions and countries.
The increasing number of visitors also boosted the tourism business sector, including transportation services, culinary businesses, and tour package providers. Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani expressed gratitude for the continuous public trust in Banyuwangi as a holiday destination.
“Alhamdulillah, kami bersyukur Banyuwangi tetap menjadi pilihan bagi wisatawan untuk menghabiskan waktu liburannya. Terima kasih kepada semua pihak yang terus bahu membahu dalam menjaga dan memajukan pariwisata Banyuwangi. Ini menjadi penyemangat kita bersama untuk terus memberikan pengalaman wisata yang nyaman dan aman bagi semua,” kata Bupati Banyuwangi Ipuk Fiestiandani, Minggu (17/05/2026).
The long holiday period brought a significant surge of tourists to almost every major destination in Banyuwangi. Nature-based tourism attractions, beaches, and urban entertainment areas were filled with visitors throughout the holiday season.
One of the busiest attractions was Hutan De Djawatan, which welcomed 7,266 visitors. The destination is famous for its giant centuries-old trembesi trees that create a mystical forest atmosphere, making it a favorite location for photography and relaxation.
Meanwhile, Pantai Pulau Merah attracted 5,636 tourists during the long weekend. The beach is widely known for its beautiful sunset views, surfing waves, and relaxing coastal atmosphere.
Other popular destinations also recorded high visitor numbers, including Pantai Marina Boom with 4,965 visitors, Kawah Ijen with 3,297 visitors, and Pantai Mustika with 2,869 tourists.
Tourists visiting Banyuwangi during the holiday period also frequently used guided tour services to maximize their travel experiences. Tour Java Holiday is known for offering Mount Ijen tours, Banyuwangi overland trips, and East Java travel packages for both local and overseas travelers.
Acting Head of the Banyuwangi Culture and Tourism Office, Hartono, explained that city-based attractions also experienced a significant increase in visitors during the long holiday.
“Seperti Banyuwangi Park yang ada di tengah kota yang ramai diserbu wisatawan. Tercatat 4.050 telah berkunjung ke sini selama long weekend. Jumlah ini diprediksi masih bisa bertambah mengingat kunjungan masih tetap buka hingga sore nanti,” ujar Hartono.
One of the urban attractions that attracted strong visitor interest was Banyuwangi Park, which recorded 4,050 visitors during the holiday period.
The tourism boom also directly impacted the hotel and accommodation industry in Banyuwangi. Several hotels reported full occupancy rates, especially during the peak holiday dates.
Aston Banyuwangi Hotel & Conference Center confirmed that all rooms had been fully booked well before the holiday period began.
“Okupansi naik 100 persen. Semua kamar fully booked di tanggal 14-15 Mei. Mayoritas tamu berasal dari luar kota,” kata Sales Manager Aston Banyuwangi, Sari.
A similar situation occurred at Villa Solong, a beachfront accommodation known for its direct view of the Bali Strait.
“Tanggal 14-16 kemarin, semua kamar penuh. Dan semua tamu kami dari luar kota, di antaranya Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali. Rata-rata mereka memang mau liburan di Banyuwangi,” ujar Executive Marketing Villa Solong, Imam Solehan.
The rising number of tourists during the Banyuwangi long holiday demonstrated the region’s strong appeal as a leading tourism destination in Indonesia.
